Meet Nicolas Soul, a self-professed 18-year-old genre bender. Originally from Kenya, raised in Nashville, he fell in love with hip-hop music at 8 and started recording at 14. He cites his inspirations as Kanye West, J. Cole, Drake, and Kendrick – with whom who collectively admires their storytelling, longevity, and versatility. Up to this point, he released three official “mixtapes,” and 3 Eps, which he categories as more free and unfocused. What makes him stand out from the pack, well, as he puts it, “My passion for music is super intense. I listen to music [literally] 24 hrs a day — even when I sleep — consistently enjoying and studying artists to further advance my style. I’ll make song memos when I get an idea anywhere. Restroom at work. Church. School tests. I just really love music, man.”
