In a rare interview on Real Late Conversations with Peter Rosenberg enigmatic rapper Mach-Hommy, fresh off the release of his #RICHAXXHAITIAN LP, shared a surprising story about an encounter with Jay-Z and Usher.

Mach recounted an unexpected afternoon at a country club with the two music icons. He described Jay-Z wearing a Haitian flag shirt and loudly playing Haitian music, drawing attention from other club patrons. This led to a crowd forming, seeking photos with Jay-Z.

“[There was] a line of people with their daughters that want to take pictures,” Mach said. He recalled Jay-Z’s frustration: “Man they won’t leave me alone.”

Mach also described Usher’s presence. “I think Usher had like an ounce on the table or some [stuff] like that,” he said. Usher was particularly curious about the Mach. “He was like, ‘Yo? how do you do it.’”

The encounter took an unexpected turn when Jay opened up to the elusive MC. “He really just gave me his whole history like unabridged,” he said, describing a two-hour conversation filled with unknown details about the legend’s life and career.

The meeting culminated in a profound moment of recognition, with Jay noting there were only two people he considered to be “that ni**a”—Jay Electronica and Mach-Hommy himself.

Elsewhere in the interview, Mach discussed his approach to controlling his brand. He emphasized the importance of ownership and selective visibility in social media and music releases. “If you want to engage with my work as an owner versus just a renter or a leaser, you’re going to have to pay a premium,” he stated, explaining his strategy of limited releases and higher price points.
