Here’s the thing with the mainstream, singles-driven brand of music that dominates our social stratosphere — it pretty either works, or it doesn’t. Some artists only just blend in and eventually fizzle out. Others, although they share similar qualities, like say, Post Malone, catch on like a virus, and just pop!
Jersey artist Martin Suarez is one artist who is, for all intensive purposes, going over. His SoundCloud is extremely concise, but his single “Faded,” which he’s been servicing for the past 365, has an incredible amount of engagement. In fact, it’s surpassed 14 million plays. Although, I always approach SoundCloud spins with a grain of salt, sheer engagement, and commercial appeal seem to bark authenticity. We reached out to the young rapper who admittedly has lots of music ready to go — for quick Q&R. So, the right A&R may want to hop on the hype train now.
How’d you get into music?
I got involved in music a few years back; my uncle introduced me into rapping.
Who are your influences?
My main influences were Michael Jackson and 2pac.
What are you currently working on?
I’m currently working on putting an album together, but that won’t be coming out for at least a year.
Describe your sound.
My sound is a little bit of hip hop/pop/EDM type music; I don’t consider myself a rapper. I am an artist and can do any genre. My goal is to become a platinum recording artist and have all my songs be #1 in the world.
What makes you different in the sea of similar artists?
I’m different, and I’m humble.. but at the same time, I don’t care what people think of me. I love making music for myself, and I just want people to understand you can do anything you put your mind to. I want people to be able to listen to my music, and it gives them the inspiration to do what they love.
Have any labels thrown you any deals based on the success of “Faded?”
I’ve received a few deals recently, but as of right now, I’m not signing any deals.
