Vibes In The City: Najir Green

If you ever have the opportunity to attend Vibes in The City, you’ll know NuFamm is a staple at the weekly open mic in Newark, NJ. The movement of NuFamm ranges from their custom T-Shirt store in East Orange, NJ called NUFAMM Custom Cave to their infectious music from Najir Green, Choice and many other talented artists.

This week’s Vibes feature is Najir Green, mixed with R&B and Hip-Hop, Najir brings the crowd together with dope tracks like “U Know Dis Shit” and “Just In Case”. The Newark native has Hip-Hop royalty in his blood; Najir calls legendary front man Treach of Naughty by Nature his uncle, which explains his love for party anthems.

AAHH: NuFamm is a staple at Vibes, how did you find out about the weekly open mic?

NG: Broadway Blake another icon in Jersey, if you ask me; him and his crew use to support a movement we had going on up at the Heritage Lounge [in West Orange] and when it got near the end he told us about that they was starting something up so it was like we in there!

AAHH: Has Vibes increased your fan base?

NG: Definitely!! I meet a new artist every time I’m there!

AAHH: I’ve listened to your SoundCloud, you shout out NuFamm throughout your songs. Tell us about your crew.

NG: My Crew! The love I have for them, it’s something hard to explain. I’ve never met a group of people the love music as much as I do! And they just all remain hungry. Choice! My right hand man, the bond we have is that of a “big brother lil brother” bond and when it comes to this music were on the same page! I love my crew! NUFAMM!

AAHH: Your sound reminds me of Styles P a bit, have you ever heard of that comparison?

NG: Yeah I’ve gotten that before, it’s crazy cause I haven’t heard that one in a minute (laughs). The funny thing is before I started rapping I use to do R&B and I always get the Anthony Hamilton comparison.

AAHH: Who are your musical influences?

NG: Back then it was Jay Z, Nas, KRS One, but as I grew I started gaining this love for my underground artists now. Some of my favorite artists include R.A.P Phenomenal outta Jersey, the homie Gemstone outta Chicago, and Jon Connor from Detroit.

AAHH: You definitely have a genuine lyrical ability, what’s your writing process like?

NG: I turn on one of my fav songs first, and then I go threw my beat selection and when I get some fire I just go. I write off of my life experiences!

AAHH: What can you bring to Hip-Hop?

NG: Originality! We’re lacking it. Everybody sounds like everybody now. I just wanna be great, at this very moment things are taking off for my camp. I can’t say too much but NUFAMM will be a name you’ll hear!

Najir Green is an entrepreneur in his own right, be sure to look out for his clothing line Odd Outcast and check him out on tour now with the Dear Jersey Tour hosted New York City’s Hot 97 and Love & Hip-Hop star DJ Drewski. “You can find me Everywhere! Najir Green on everything, Fb, Instagram!”
