Rapper Chinx Dies At Age 31

Lionel Pickens, aka Chinx Drugz, was an up and coming rapper with a bright future. For those who didn’t know, he was a part of French Montana’s label Coke Boys – and was also a close personal friend of Montana’s.

Chinx was shot and killed on Sunday May 17th, which came as a surprise to a lot of people. Philly rapper Meek Mill wrote a paragraph about young rapper, in which he implied that Chinx was still caught up in the street lifestyle:

“This is exactly why I don’t play in the streets ….. Chinx to French like Omelly to me! I tell @Omelly and my real day 1s get out that hood no matter what it cost or the circumstance! It’s nothing that add up to losing ya life at a young age!!! N*ggas killing n*ggas that’s Tryna win! I got love for the people in the hood but I don’t f*ck wit the hood nomore! I dont agree with the rules, most of that sh*t stupid to me now because I learned and it has nothing to do with having money! Seeing sh*t like happen always make my heart cold and make me act in cold ways towards my own kind of people! I hate to see potential DIE!! REST WELL #CHINX WE GONE F*CKING MISS YOU!!!”

According to ABC News, the incident happened at 4 a.m. in Queens. He (Chinx) was driving a friend – and Coke Boy affiliate – Antar Alziadi, nicknamed Yemen Cheeze, to the station when the shooting happened. Chinx suffered from multiple gunshot wounds. Chinx and Alziadi were rushed to Jamaica Hospital, where Chinx was pronounced dead.

At first, Alziadi’s condition was less than stable, but he’s now doing okay. He posted on Instagram proclaiming that Chinx “saved” his life:

“RIP TO MY BROTHER YOU SAVED ME!! Words can’t even explain how I feel right now I’m fighting the fight #LongLiveChinx #Prayforme”

Chinx has released multiple independently produced mixtapes and was set to soon release an album. On Sunday, before he was killed, he was performing at a local nightclub. This shooting is still under investigation; however, new developments have shown that his death is extremely similar to that of Rayquan Elliott a.k.a. Stack Bundles. Rapper Stack Bundles was killed in 2007 not far from his apartment in Queens. The sad thing is Stack Bundles was Chinx’s mentor.

Hopefully Chinx’s family will get some sort of justice/closure. Chinx leaves behind three children, a wife and a brief body of work that will live on.
