Julisa Rocks Out In Her ‘Sperrys’

Spoken word artist Julisa grew up in Los Angeles, California, before moving to Orange County. Growing up in a crime-infested neighborhood in the city of Inglewood, her parents enrolled her and her siblings in curricular activities that would keep them away from trouble including basketball and theater. Although her father’s experience as a percussionist helped to spark a love of music in her, she didn’t start writing hip hop music until she saw her brother perform on stage with R&B megastar Miguel in the early 2000s. Now, blending in soul sounds, guitar, and ukulele, she’s on her way to becoming a brand that will be hard to forget. Her summer hit, “Strawberry Shortcake” featuring Mark Battles did rave numbers on Soundcloud–and her new record has already more than doubled that.

“Sperry,” inspired by the iconic boat shoe designed by Paul A. Sperry back in 1935, is a melodic/flowetic trap/soul record ready for your weekly playlist. Give it a spin below–and if you’re feeling it, knock the share button.
