Interview With Rapper/Producer Pneuma

Rapper, producer, and engineer Pneuma is coming straight out of Santa Cruz, California. “I aspire to be a representative [of Santa Cruz],” he told AAHH, “I hope to influence people [with my music] as well as help people with whatever problems they may face.” The young artist has a hefty track record to his credit, but it wasn’t till last year that he transcended production and began to release his written material—history, though, has shown this to be a natural progression (production to rap).

The up and comer recently chatted with AAHH about his sound, his influences, and his goals. Check out his interview after the jump.

Describe your music.

My music has a typical sound with my own twist. I always try to experiment with different sounds or samples to give it all a unique blend between hip-hop and any other genre that I please.

How did you get into this?

I began writing raps for fun in 9th grade and started taking music seriously through my junior year of high school. I began producing in 2015, and I still am to this day.

Who influenced you?

I was influenced to take rap seriously when I began to listen to Tech N9ne, whom I found late in 2014. But the reason I started producing is because of Hopsin. Other people who stand out to me are people like Drake, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, Mac Miller, Logic, etc.

What have you dropped so far?

I have released probably 100 songs, but the majority were instrumentals. I didn’t start releasing my actual raps until almost a year ago. I stopped releasing beats and started focusing on rapping full time.

What are you working on now?

I’m currently working on a bunch of songs and trying to expand my sound every day. Hopefully, I can complete the EP I’m working on within the next couple of months.

What has been your crowning achievement thus far?

My biggest achievement is receiving nearly 70,000 plays on Soundcloud recently. I hope people will check it out even more and get it to 100,000.

What’s your goal in the game?

My goal is to become a professional music producer/rapper and build a large fanbase. I have no idea what’s next for me, but hopefully my audience increases!
