#IndieSpotlight: Mevoke Dotson Drops Clams Casino Produced ‘Level 1’

Mevoke Dotson is an in-house producer, songwriter, editor, and recording artist over at Mo Res Records—an indie label in Florida. What started at a young age as an affinity for poems grew into hip-hop; the rest just all fell into place. He a relative newcomer, with only a handful of joints out there in the world, but his latest—released on NYE—”Level 1″ is a great into to him as an artist. The almost ambient chanty production is supplied by the highly acclaimed Clams Casino, who has produced for industry elites like A$AP Rocky, Weeknd, ScHoolboy Q, MF DOOM, Jhené Aiko and many more. Needless to say, it’s a song that peaked our interest in the young rapper.

We decided to learn a little more about him—check out the quick interview below, as well as the new Clams Casino produced record. He’s got some heat in store for 2017.

Early

How’d you get into the game?

I was born and raised in Florida (currently resident in Carol City). In ’09, I wasn’t hearing what I wanted to hear in terms of music. That was when I started writing and recording videos on my brother laptop. Everything I did at that time was only acapella. I started rapping on beats probably like in 2012. I wanted my beats to sound a certain way so then I started producing in high school.

Who would you consider influences?

My brother put me on to like Ludacris, Eminem, Jay-Z, Fabulous, Lil Wayne… you know? Them. I still listen to them, but as an artist, I feel my responsibility is to bring something new to the table.

What have you dropped to date?

Last year I released “Ace”—that was a track I produced—and then “Level 1” which was produced by a talented artist that goes by the name Clams Casino. I’m working on too much. I’m trying to organize everything; Hopefully, an album comes out of it.

What has been your biggest achievement so far?

My trip to New York early last year was one of my biggest achievements so far. My goal is to make what God wants me to make, nothing more, nothing less.
