Hunter Powell: Making Moves

Hunter Powell in an R&B singer from Columbus, Ohio. “Music has always been my passion,” he admits. Although he’s been making music for a while now, it was just four years ago when he decided to turn his passion into a solid career. He’s completely self-reliant, that is he produces all his music and engineers his recording sessions. ” I create, write, and record all of my music, so basically I’m making every song from scratch in ProTools. I’m 21 years old, and I’ma (sic) be singing for life.”

Check out his music, and a brief Q&A below.

How did you get involved in music?

I started DJing in 8th grade, then four years ago decided to make my music. After my first song “Can’t Sleep,” people wanted to hear more and more.

Tell me about your music.

Well, I produce all of my music from scratch in ProTools using smooth E-Pianos for most of my tracks to create a beautiful and chill vibe. My biggest influence in music is Marc E. Bassy. Two years ago, I did a cover of his song “Some Things Never Change,” and he re-posted the song on Twitter, and followed me. Ever since then we talk on and off about music, and he gives me fantastic advice, from performing to writing.

What are you working on now?

I’m moving to Los Angeles soon to take my music up another level with the resources they have out there. I’m currently working on a lot of features with other artists, and a couple singles that I will release before I move to the west coast.

What’s your ultimate industry goal?

My goal with the industry is to make a strong influence on music today. I think music should move towards the R&B direction rather than some of the current mainstream music.
