Confession: just last week I didn’t know who Fashawn was – but now I wish I would have known about him much sooner. Fashawn has a new album out called, The Ecology. When I tell you I enjoyed the album from start to finish, it’s the truth.

“Starve myself like Gandhi on behalf of my art.” That one line, from the album opener Guess Who’s Back, drew me in and had me hooked. This song isn’t the only one that has lyrics that will blow your mind. Another one of my favourites is, Confess. I love the reggae beat. When it comes to production, Fashawn is very versatile.I should also mention that he had the likes of Nas, The Alchemist, Aloe Blacc, DJ Khalil and others involved on the boards. His flow style reminds me of Talib Kweli – but Fashawn definitely has his own unique voice.

Golden State of Mind reminds me of the summer time. Of cookouts, walking around with friends, and just having a good time. This song is the perfect feel good song especially with everything happening nowadays. We need music that will change our moods, inspire us. It’s very rare to find rappers who are actually talking about things we can relate too. Fashawn’s music can and will move a whole generation. Each song off the album gives whoever is listening to it a vivid picture of what he’s talking about.

If you haven’t gotten the album by now, you’re slipping.
