Vibes In the City is not just your ordinary showcase for musicians to display their talents. It’s a chance for artists to network with other artists around Newark. This week, I had the pleasure of interviewing some of the featured artists performing Wednesday night. One of them being Butta Sahdeez. Sahdeez is a New Jersey native who credits some of his sounds to his college days spent down South. Butta Saheedz’ wordplay is one of the things that captured my attention when listening to his music. I look forward to watching him perform this Wednesday night at La Rouge Lounge!
Your stage name is interesting, how did you come up with it? And also, tell us a little bit about yourself.
I was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey. I played basketball until I went college. Then I started pursuing music as a hobby until I realized that I had potential and that it also made me happy. The name ‘Butta Sahdeez’ came from one of my neighborhood friends. I used to always say “Young butta, cause I’m always on the roll” and it just stuck with me. Sahdeez is a slang term that I made up along the way, it’s a word for a person that has a smooth style or a lot of swag. I believe I have that swaggy, cool, dope style, so that’s where Butta Sahdeez came from.
As I was listening to your songs, your wordplay is crazy; your rhymes tell a story that makes sense.
I just try best to use a lot of real-life experiences with creativity, energy and a lot of swag. The main goal is to have the fans enjoy every second of it.
Your “My Shit” freestyle sounded like there was down south vibe to it. Who do you credit your sound to?
Well, I try very hard not to sound like anyone else but myself. In this era, it is hard to have your style, but you have to adapt in the best way possible for your style. However, I do have family down south, and I also went to college in Texas and Louisiana, so maybe that where that different sound came from.
What song(s) can we expect you to perform at Vibes on Wednesday night?
I would love to tell you but I can’t. Every show is a surprise, and I want the feeling to be historical for you in the form of a concert! See you Wednesday night!
