Rapper/singer Sooper Vega has roots in the Bronx, New York, but is quick to point out that Providence, RI. Commonly referred to as just Vega, he’s spent the better part of the last three years working through devastating heartbreak and management issues. This has served as the centerpiece for the inspiration behind the new effort, Guilt Trip — his first release since his acclaimed debut, Rise. With a new video and a handful of excellent upcoming live performances, it’s looking like it’s going to be a big summer for Vega!

Describe Your Sound.

I don’t know if I can. (Laughs) I mean I haven’t made up my mind. My sound is freshman year of college, undecided, completely unsure of where Ima go next. One day somebody will say I sound like Lupe or Common, the next day I get Budden and House gang, recently I got Gambino, Cole, & Drake (Laughs) so yea. My favorite of all time, though, back when I released “RISE” somebody told me I was the new Will Smith! I lost my damn mind kid.

How did you get involved in music?

Do you want the long story or the short version? (Laughs) My pops was a DJ in NY, so I got in on the lifestyle early, started messing around with music when I was around 13 and found myself seriously pursuing the hardest career in the planet around 17, the rest is the present.

What do you want people to take away from your music?

That’s a solid question, never thought about that. I honestly just want people to feel understood, accepted, and excited. If people feel any sensation from my music, if it helps anyone get through something, if it creates any spark between people I want to know. I just want to bring the people together.

What are your ultimate goals?

I just want to travel the world rocking stages. That’s it. Let’s party everywhere. #partywithvega.

What is coming up next for you professionally?

There are a lot of interesting things in talks for up next, but I’m not 100% sure of what’s next like I said freshman year of college (Laughs). I will say just follow me on Twitter, and a little bit of Instagram and I’ll keep you posted. Only things certain are two performances back home; one hosted by Chip Douglas on July 28th and one along side some of my hometown flames Spocka Summa, Jay Notes, and Taj Amani August 18th. Also, I have some crazy music festival in upstate New York on September 9th & 10th that I know I’m rocking the stage at, but I know nothing else besides that (Laughs).
