ReachingNOVA has been on our radar for a while now; representing the Mecca of Hip Hop, the Bronx, he has a particular charisma about him that has drawn us to his music in the past. He’s back again, with a new track “The Meditation.” Here’s why it deserves a spot on your playlist!
NOVA has the New York swag; the contextual content of the song aside, he has a punchline flow that reps his borough’s long-held reputation alive. The song is equal parts introspective and motivational — not wholly autobiographical, but it does make a ton of first-person references that help illustrate that a lot of the bars are coming from a real place.
“Ain’t no dollar generated, so it ain’t business,” he raps in the first verse, helping paint a picture of how personal the bars are to him. “Same mistakes bring the same lessons … life happens we just came to get it,” he spits elsewhere in the same verse.
The chorus by Amnel Holguin is the icing on the cake; ending with a four-bar duet by the two, the chorus, over the super dope production with its subtle ambiance has a radio-ready feel to it. This shit is begging for a visual treatment.
