Ravage is a well established, respected, and seasoned UK rapper (Birmingham). A self-professed B-Boy from the golden era of hip-hop, he’s been active on the underground circuit for many years. He jumped in head first as an integral part of UK rap supergroup, MSI and Asylum. The group, often lauded as pioneering, had many huge tunes, including the critically acclaimed Hang Em’ High. He also spent a period as a closely affiliated signed artist on DJ Maseo’s (of De La Soul) Bear Mountain record label.
As Rav describes it, he’s been gifted with the versatility to adapt and to move with the times, allowing him to lyrically and musically adapt to the ever-evolving sounds of hip hop today. This isn’t an egregious claim – and is easily verified with a listen to the new tunes he has on his SoundCloud. His three current tracks, “Regrets,” “What’s My Name,” and “Back To You,” show where he’s at, and where he may be going. “Regrets,” for example, has a very contemporary feel to it, while “What’s My Name” feel like a sonic homage to the heyday of Roc-a-fella and Just Blaze. “Back To You” has a smooth neo-soul/jazzy vibe. Ray’s lyrical content is strong, fresh, and undeniably representative of his roots in the game.
Give the new music a listen, and keep an eye out for Ravage’s upcoming LP.
