Nur Konnect’s “Vertical Axis” Is A Jazzy Journey Through Sound

Montreal-based Canadian rapper/producer Nur Konnect recently released the follow up to this summer’s Soul Archives, Vertical Axis — a 12-song odyssey of 90s Boom Bap, jazz, and soul chops blended in a melting pot of mellow bars. If you’re into that golden ear fresh off the college-radio underground mixtape vibe, you’re in for a treat.

Nur points to John Coltrane, Pharaoh Saunders, Sun-Ra, Yusuf Lateef, Public Enemy, Tupac Shakur, Jeru The Damaja and Guru as amongst his most significant influences — and it shows. As with his past three album releases, the project has a combination of vocal tracks, and instrumentals, making for a unique top-to-bottom listening experience.

Overall, it’s a well-curated slice of Hip Hop goodness. Check it out above, and while you’re at it, check out some of his other releases.
