Lion Babe – Jungle Lady Remix Part II ft Angel Haze
Jungle Lady Remix Part II is a sampling of the Notorious BIG’s “Big Poppa” done right. The duo still manages to make the song entirely their own by incorporating their signature sound. And of course, Jillian Hervey’s voice and rapper Angel Haze’s rhymes are the cherries on top. Don’t forget to check out my review on their newest project Sun Joint here!
The Pheels – French Toast
Who knew French Toast could sound so good? Atlanta duo Curtis Fields and Phil Jones make that possible. Known by their stage name The Pheels the two have created a soulful, funky vibe that’s a far cry from Atlanta’s signature trap sound.
JaySwifa – All Night
It’s hard to decide on exactly what element brings that “it” factor to JaySwifa’s “All Night.” Ultimately what sealed the deal was the perfect execution in sampling Kelala’s “Go All Night”. However, JaySwifa’s ability to naturally ride the beat giving the song a relaxed feel is a close second.
Dj Khaled – I Got the Keys ft Jay-Z and Future
It looks like DJ Khaled’s goal for the summer is providing the world with endless summer smashes and I am not mad about it. Right off the heels from the Drake-assisted hit record “For Free”, Khaled teams up with Hip-Hop royalty Jay-Z and Future. Future using Khaled’s signature “I got the keys” phrase delivers the heavily auto-tuned hook. During his verses, Hov doesn’t forget to remind us all that he’s married to Ruler of the Universe Beyonce’, and he’s dreaming in color all thanks to Baby Blue.
Gendi – Colors ft Shaka Ptah
In a time where race is a huge reoccurring social issue, “Colors” seemed to have arrived at the perfect time. Gendi reminds us that no matter how pigmented your melanin may be, you’re beautiful regardless. The songstress’s vocals are obviously golden, and Ptah’s socially conscious and aware verses will have you thinking about your personal actions.
