New York City-based singer and producer Matthew De Ver has a great vibe about him– his latest is a breezy P-Funk aesthetic that places him on a weird plane (think Miguel meets Tame Impala meets Sun Ra). “The Climb,” was inspired by a 2011 trip to South America.

“This song was inspired by a trip to Peru and visiting Machu Picchu,” he tells AAHH. As he explains, it was a compelling journey that opened the space for even deeper healing upon his returned home. “The track explores seeing the struggle/adversity in life/art/growth as an offering to something greater … an integral and unavoidable part of the process.”

The track is the second single from De Ver’s upcoming debut LP, Surface Tension (A Tincture for Integrating Shadow). The album is set to explore his formative years, dealing with the loss of his father.

The Outcastkid Salutes NYC With New Remix

19-year-old New Rochelle, New York, native The Outcastkid has been doing some crazy numbers over the past five months or so, with a number of original joints and remixes — notably his Jaden Smith “Icon” remix that had well over 50,000 spins. His latest, a remix of Smoke DZA and Joey BadA$$’s “The Mood” — which appeared on DZA’s Not For Sale LP — is a bar-heavy salute to the mecca of Hip Hop.

“These hating pebbles can’t stand to see a nigga rock,” he raps over the instrumental, which samples the Kanye-produced “Guess Who’s Back” by Scarface featuring Jay Z and Beanie Sigel. Wes Jo also comes through with a guest 16 full of punches. Sandwiched by the sound of the MTA announcing closing its doors, the song is dripping in NYC swag.

If you’re into the vibe, he has a nice catalog beginning to swell; the Riddle Beats-produced “Shock Jockey,” the super vibed-out “Indigo Smoke,” and the Rick And Morty themed “Rick And Morty’s Outcast,” are all worth a spin. Check those out, below.

ASAP Rocky-protege Playboi Carti had a huge 2017 thanks to his debut single, “Magnolia” and self-titled debut album. Continuing the trend, Playboi Carti surprises fans with a brand new sophomore album intriguingly titled, Die Lit.

Known for his influential swagger and bass-driven sound, the Atlanta-native returns with 19 all-new tracks. Reflecting on his skyrocketing success (both good and bad), and reuniting with go-to hit-making producer Pi’erre Bourne (“Magnoila”), Carti collaborates with a lot of heavy hitters this time around, like Nicki Mianj, Travis Scott, Lil Uzi Vert, Young Thug, Skepta, Bryson Tiller, and many more.

Along with the star-studded collaborations, Carti showcases a lot of growth in his sound and establishes himself as a mainstay in the current era of Hip-Hop. Defeating the sophomore myth, Carti’s trendsetting popularity continues to be a must-hear among the wave of new artists.

Playboi Carti developed a cult-like following over the previous years through his selective releasing of music on Soundcloud. Through his affiliations with ASAP Rocky and ASAP Mob, Carti secured a deal with Rocky’s newly developed creative group AWGE and Interscope Records.
