Rapper Taj Mahal–better known as Designer Gawd– recently dropped a new record produced by Chi-town production duo Watchmen who–amongst a host of others– have worked with acts including Jon Connor, Waka Flocka, and Jim Jones. The track, entitled “Dear Rocafella,” is a throwback to that classic soul sound that made the crew [at their height] so monumental. With a Just Blaze summer ’02 vibe, Taj shows the utmost respect for not just the label and artists–but the staff and background players. Described as “Nothing short of greatness” by Jigga’s (former) personal DJ, Green Lantern, the record has some legs to it.
It’s the first single off of the upcoming new EP Watchmen and Taj are cheffing up–and it sounds like it’s going to crazy. Stay tuned for that. For now–check the record. Put your diamonds up!
