Large Professor: New Train Old Route

Large Professor needs no introduction…especially on a site called Above Average Hip-Hop. If you’re unfamiliar with the Queens producer/rapper/DJ pick a record from his illustrious catalog and press play. If you’re a fan you already know. Re: Living is Large Pro’s 5th solo studio release, and further cements his status as a true master.

Re: finds the Professor at his most introspective. Without youth as an ally, he reflects on a storied career as only a legend could. The tracks on Re: Living have a unified feel; paying homage to the great collaborations of his past while pushing things forward, especially on the Nas tribute “In The Scrolls”.

The project buzzes with an undeniable Main Source energy, flashing back at times to wander in the glare of the Golden Era. Fortunately, Large Professor’s pedigree allows for mundane moments because they’re counterbalanced by gems like “Re: Living” and “Opulence”, one of the best singles of 2015.

Large Professor doesn’t seem content to stand in place. The sound on Re: Living is urgent and entirely relevant without neglecting the lust for nostalgia. In a year packed with solid releases, Large Professor still manages to let the rhythm hit ‘em.
