Often it can take an artist hitting a low point in order to turn their lives around for the better. This is definitely the case for Chicago MC Gen. the 19-year-old is riding high following the release of his debut EP Y15946 — a title that references his prisoner number.

Following his release from prison, after a 19-month sentence in Illinois for possession of a firearm, his life has taken a pivot towards a brighter path, and his EP is an embodiment of this sentiment — a true celebration of life. His latest single “vLONE” is a combination of a raspy chorus, that bookends rapid-fire verses, that ride the bass-fueled instrumental by OG Webbie. The chorus is hella catchy; the end of the song when the beat drops out, you can hear his chains clanking as he repeats it one final time.
