Funkmaster Flex, a veteran New York City DJ, has cast doubt on the authenticity of the ongoing feud between rappers Kendrick Lamar and Drake.

In a June 20 post on X, formerly Twitter, Flex questioned whether the dispute was a genuine lyrical battle or a marketing ploy. “Was it a lyrical competition? Or a marketing / career relaunch?” he wrote, seeking clarification on the rules of engagement.

Flex’s skepticism contrasts with other hip-hop figures’ views. LL Cool J, speaking on The Bootleg Kev Podcast, praised the battle as beneficial for hip-hop, giving the edge to Lamar while noting Drake’s strong performance.

Ice Cube, in an appearance on The Big Podcast with Shaquille O’Neal, endorsed rap battles as integral to the genre. He assessed that Lamar had landed more effective blows but suggested Drake could still recover.

These varied perspectives underscore the complex nature of hip-hop feuds and their impact on the genre’s evolution.
