In a recent Talk with Flee episode, Cam’ron finally shared his side of a long-whispered story involving a run-in with Black Mafia Family (BMF) during Miami’s Memorial Day weekend in the early 2000s — a weekend that nearly derailed Dipset’s move to Atlanta before it even started.
Cam set the record straight: he didn’t know who BMF was at the time. The night started off as a regular party with Dipset and others posted up at a club in Miami. Cam noticed liquor spilling from the level above, hitting Dipset members. While some thought it was disrespectful, Cam insists it wasn’t intentional. “These [guys] was just partying,” he said, brushing it off and trying to avoid conflict. But some in his crew went upstairs anyway, and a fight broke out — leading to people getting cut, though no Dipset members were injured.
The next night, Cam performed at Club Mansion, unaware BMF was in the building holding up shirts and towels repping Black Mafia. “I thought they was just fans,” he said. After the show, Dipset left — not knowing that BMF was looking for them backstage, as Blue Da Vinci claimed in his version of the story.
Later that night, outside the Royal Palm hotel, Cam noticed a growing crowd at the end of the driveway. “I see 5 dudes… then 10… then 30… then 40,” he recalled. “They looked like they had chainsaws and brass knuckles.” Eventually, the group rushed toward certain Dipset affiliates — but not Cam. “They ran past me,” he said. “They gave me that look like, ‘Yeah [expletive], what’s up?’ but they didn’t come at me directly.”
Even the cops ran, Cam said. “One of my guys rolled under a car and didn’t come out till they left.”
Cam later learned it was BMF, and tried to set up a peace meeting — but his associate went back to Atlanta and escalated things, killing any chance of squashing it. Cam ended up giving away a six-bedroom apartment and Range Rover he’d just secured in ATL, deciding not to move there at all.
“I look back now like, I’m kind of thankful,” he said. “If I had moved down there, I might just be getting out of jail today.”
