In a candid VladTV interview, Da Band member E. Ness opened up about life under Diddy’s thumb during Making the Band 2. While the reality show gave fans drama and unforgettable moments, Ness says what happened off-camera was even more intense.
Diddy, he claims, had a soft spot for him because he was a thinker — but that mindset got him in trouble with others. “They don’t like thinkers. They want people who go with the flow,” Ness explained.
After one particularly strong live performance in Chicago, the group was handed a $15,000 check — even though they’d been told it was a promo-only event. That moment made Ness question how much they’d actually been earning behind the scenes. “I straight-up asked Diddy, ‘Are we getting robbed?’”
But the most jaw-dropping moment came during a confrontation between Diddy and Freddy P. In a heated group meeting, Fred voiced how he felt mistreated — like the group was being hazed more than developed.
That’s when Diddy snapped, telling the crew to cut the cameras off.
“I’ll buy your whole neighborhood, cut off everybody’s lights, and leave yours on.”
Fred, clearly rattled, threatened to get his gun. Diddy pressed him to show it, and when he couldn’t, he added:
“That’s what I thought. I got two guns on me right now. I’ll get down off this podium and slap the [expletive] out of you with them.”
Ness said it was a defining moment — one that showed how Diddy thinks on a different level. “He’s not average,” Ness said. “The way he thinks, whether he’s partying or punishing, is extreme.”
Da Band was built for TV, but Ness says real lessons were learned behind the scenes — about business, control, and the cost of asking too many questions.
