The music industry has recently been rocked by numerous allegations of misconduct. Notably, Diddy has been accused of assaulting multiple women, and Kanye West faces a lawsuit for sexual harassment. Now, The-Dream is confronting similar accusations. Chanaaz Mangroe, professionally known as Channii Monroe, has accused him of assault and sexual violence over an extended period.
Mangroe publicly aired her allegations on June 4. The-Dream promptly responded, issuing a statement to the New York Times in which he flatly denied all claims, calling them “untrue and defamatory.” He also voiced his strong opposition to harassment, stating, “I oppose all forms of harassment. I have always strived to help people realize their career goals. As someone committed to making a positive impact on my fellow artists and the world at large, I am deeply offended and saddened by these accusations.”
Despite The-Dream’s denial, Mangroe maintains that the singer raped her multiple times. She further alleged that he frequently strangled her during violent sex, causing her to nearly lose consciousness. Mangroe’s detailed accusations portray The-Dream as a manipulative individual who controlled various aspects of her life. Consequently, she is suing both The-Dream and his label, Epic Records, for enabling what she describes as “depraved behavior.”
This is not the first time The-Dream has faced allegations of violence. He was arrested in 2014 stemming from allegations of assault and strangulation of his then-girlfriend, Lydia Nam.
Nam accused him of punching, kicking, and strangling her while she was pregnant with their son. She reported the incident seven months later, and The-Dream subsequently surrendered for questioning. However, the charges were eventually dismissed due to insufficient evidence.
