JAY-Z is set to perform at this year’s Roots Picnic festival, fueling speculation about a return to music. Organizers announced the news on March 17, confirming that JAY-Z will join The Roots on May 30 at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia.

The Roots’ manager, Shawn Gee, expressed excitement about the collaboration, stating, “Moving the Roots Picnic to Belmont Plateau and bringing JAY-Z and The Roots together to perform are both bucket-list moments for us.” He credited Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker and other officials for inspiring the event’s expansion.

Ticket pre-sales are currently available with the code “ROOTS26,” and general sales will start on March 18 at 10 AM ET. The full festival lineup has yet to be announced.

This performance marks JAY-Z’s first major live set in almost a year, following a cameo during Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter Tour in Paris in June. His recent appearances have included brief spots at notable events like Tom Brady’s New England Patriots Hall of Fame ceremony and the 2024 Tony Awards, but fans are eager for a full-length performance.

Earlier this year, he surprise-released the original version of “Dead Presidents” to commemorate its 30th anniversary and reverted to his original stage name, JAŸ-Z. His website, JAYZ30.com, hints at further anniversaries and releases ahead.

With the 30th anniversary of his debut album, Reasonable Doubt, coming in June, fans speculate about potential celebrations, such as limited-edition releases or a special tour. Additionally, comments from longtime friend Memphis Bleek suggest JAY-Z may be working on new music.
