The relationship between The Notorious B.I.G. and Sean “Diddy” Combs, the founder of Bad Boy Records, has recently come under renewed scrutiny. A report in Rolling Stone suggests that Biggie had plans to leave Bad Boy Records and sever ties with Diddy in the months before his death in 1997. This report highlights a pattern of behavior by Diddy that may have driven Biggie to consider leaving the label.
Tensions between Biggie and Diddy reportedly stemmed from a financial dispute. Biggie was in the process of hiring lawyers before his death, and there were allegations of bad blood between the two. Diddy was quoted as saying, “I will never give it up until I’m dead and my bones are crushed into powder,” regarding the publishing rights, indicating significant tension.
Biggie’s mother, Voletta Wallace, has also spoken out about her son’s relationship with Diddy. She expressed her desire to slap Diddy, citing his alleged abuse of his former girlfriend Cassie and his jealousy of Biggie’s friendship with Tupac Shakur. This suggests that Voletta Wallace believed the relationship between Biggie and Diddy ended on bad terms.
After Biggie’s death, Diddy was scheduled for a cover shoot in July 1997. However, former Bad Boy partner Kirk Burrowes claims that Diddy refused to let Biggie be featured on the cover, stating, “No, he’s dead. I’m putting out No Way Out in July. I need to be on the cover of Rolling Stone.”
These revelations have added to the ongoing scrutiny of Diddy’s character and past conduct.
